What is the SE Honeypot project?

Feeding into the AntiSocial Blocklist, the SE Honeypot project will release mobile telephone numbers into the wild and record the nefarious ways they are used.

Incoming calls and SMS messages will be analysed and provide intelligence to organisations that can help minimise the impact of Voice and SMS based frauds.

Live Intelligence

Seconds after a malicious SMS has been received by one of our nodes, the message will be analysed and if a nefarious URL is found, it will be added to the AntiSocial Blocklist.

Reduce The Risk

By using data provided by the AntiSocial Blocklist service, you may be able to block nefarious domains, reducing your exposure to domain based risks.

Operator Accountability

We plan to share our data with the security community but also journalists, network operators, Ofcom and the public. People should know which companies are working to reduce the risk and those companies that allow high volumes of scam messages to be sent.

A Developing Project

We will continue to develop this service after launching. We are keen to hear from people that have interesting ideas in this space. Future roadmaps will work to broaden the intelligence gathered past SMS messages to monitor voice based phone scams.
